The Spaso-Preobrazhensky Solovetsky Monastery is a stauropegial male monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Date of foundation 1420 - 1430s. The first monastic settlement arose in 1429, when Saint Savvaty and German settled here, having spent six years in seclusion here. In 1436, after the death of Savvaty, Zosima arrived on the island and founded a monastery and two wooden churches here.
