The Sahara is the largest hot desert and the second, after the Antarctic, desert on Earth in terms of area. Located in the north of the African continent. It is stretched for about 4800 km from west to east and from 800 to 1200 km from north to south; has an area of about 8.6 million km² (about 30% of the area of Africa, slightly larger than the area of Brazil)
The Sahara is constantly increasing - every year the desert expands to the south by 6-10 km
