The City of Arts and Sciences is an architectural complex of five buildings on the drained bottom of the Turia River in the city of Valencia (Spain). Designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, construction began in 1996 and completed in 2005. The complex is one of the outstanding examples of modern architecture. The "City" consists of five buildings: an opera house and a stage for other theatrical stops; IMAX cinema, planetarium, laser theater; gallery / garden; science museum; oceanographic outdoor park. The complex is surrounded by parks, streams and pools; this area is a popular recreation area for residents and guests of the city.
